Alcoceber is a nice population center of Castellón with nearly 7,000 inhabitants in the municipality of Alcala de Xivert. A land of contrasts where the sea merges with the mountains that will quite surely surprise you at every step. Its wide cultural heritage, a privileged climate, rich cuisine, beaches and friendly people are the perfect place to spend a holiday.
At the top of the Sierra de Irta we find the fabulous Castillo de Xivert. A spectacular fortress with two distinct parts, the Muslim and the Christian part.
The place where the castle is located has been a site occupied by different civilizations since the 14th century B.C. until the castle was abandoned in the 18th century A.D. The archaeological remains found at the site show that the site was occupied by the Iberians in the 14th century B.C. Later it was the Arabs who dominated these lands for several centuries until the year 1234 when it was passed to Christian hands.
The castle has been partially restored but still presents an appearance in ruins, which include two solemn towers that controlled the entire horizon. In the south-eastern part it stands above all the old village with stone houses and narrow streets that you can walk along. Definitely a nice visit where you will travel back in time and inspire your imagination.
Islas Columbretes are undoubtedly one of the greatest treasures of this land. Located about 45 km from the coast we find these five protected volcanic islands that form one of the largest natural reserves of our coasts.
Alcossebre’s privileged situation at the foot of the Sierra de Irta and along the Mediterranean Sea provides a special character to the cuisine of this land. Alcossebre has large dining options and many restaurants scattered around the town to sample many typical dishes of the area. True to its origins, the cuisine of this region is based on fish and rice, the Valencian orchard, without forgetting the olive oil.
During our visit we will taste many delicious dishes such as "rostit" the "Suquet de peix" or La Olla and lots of types of rice and delicious paellas.
One of the typical and featured foods of Alcossebre is "tomata of penjar", an essential ingredient in the cuisine of this town used to prepare typical and traditional cocas.
The municipality has a lovely marina called Las Fuentes. It owes its name to the curious natural water sources emanating from land adjoining beach, an effect that occurs even in the sea. The port has more than 300 moorings, shops, ice cream parlors. Throughout its more than 10 km of coastline you will find great and beautiful unspoiled beaches .
Cala Blanca: a small secluded beach with low occupancy of about 30 m length made of stones. It is located in a natural and wild environment ideal for lovers of tranquility without buildings. La Romana is also one of the most recognized ones of the municipality, it is a little smaller than Carregador beach but no less attractive.
