The Costa Blanca is the holiday destination chosen by millions of visitors each year. It is bathed by the Mediterranean and features a warm climate, with over 300 days of sunshine per year and has incredible beaches that each year get awarded about 75 blue flags (62 for beaches and 13 for ports). Leading the national rankings, if we add a great tourist infrastructure, its easy access, the rich and varied cuisine and the friendliness of its people, make this the perfect place for those seeking a holiday.
The main reason why tourists often choose the Costa Blanca is for its fantastic climate, beaches and beauty of the place, but this coast offers much more. Lovers of history will not find a better place because of its geographical location, natural and commercial wealth, this coast has had to develop a large network of defensive buildings since ancient times. Here you can visit castles, watchtowers, defensive towers lookouts, forts and fortresses, walled palaces and continue the list with up to 230 venues scattered throughout the Alicante province.
There is also a wide range of museums, and of course, we cannot forget that the Costa Blanca is the cradle of three world heritage sites: Arte Rupestre del Arco Mediterráneo with very important cave paintings located in different alicantinas populations, the amazing Palmeral de Elche with 200,000 copies or the representation of medieval origin called Mysterio de Elche. In addition, there are plenty of organized routes for walking, bike or car.
Probably the most famous dishes of Alicante cuisine are rice dishes, of which there is a great variety and all delicious such as arroz a banda, arroz con costra, el arroz del "senyoret", el arroz al horno, but there are a variety of dishes made with seafood and vegetables from the garden, fruits where tradition come together to create exquisite recipes that cannot be missed such as the "suquet de peix", cauldrons and calderetas, the llandeta, or the delicious red grilled prawns. The Costa Blanca hosts several very cosmopolitan destinations, where it welcomes people from all parts of the world, so their cuisine is very wide, from simple bars or beach bars to restaurants with international Oriental, Italian cuisine, etc. There is something for all budgets from local fast-food to restaurants with modern cuisine awarded with several Michelin stars.
But the Costa Blanca is much more than that, it has a great cultural heritage and also festivals and celebrations spread throughout the year retaining their traditional festive culture. One of the most famous towns is Benidorm, a city full of skyscrapers and a wide range of leisure and entertainment, or the city of Alicante, but along the Costa Blanca, you will find smaller cities to run away from crowds where you can enjoy charming and quieter places like Calpe, Denia, Jávea, Altea and Santa Pola.
The Costa Blanca is perfect for traveling with children, apart from its fantastic beaches where children spend hours playing in the sand, water or practicing water sports, there are many leisure and entertainment spots that will make your holiday a fun experience. Some of them are: Terra Mitica, a large amusement park set in the ancient Mediterranean civilizations, Terra Natura, a new age zoo where they can learn from animals and do very educational activities, as well as in Rio Safari Elche.
In any of its water parks you can spend a fantastic and fun day, a very good choice for hot summer days is going to: Aqualandia, Mundomar, Aquanatura or Aquópolis. There are many other activities such as those related to active tourism that can be done here, beautiful and easy hiking or biking, and if we want to introduce children in culture, there are several routes of castles that children will love and they will blow your imagination. There is no doubt that traveling with children to the Costa Blanca will be a guaranteed success.
Access to the Costa Blanca is very good, you can get here by air through the international airport in Elche, Alicante, connecting this region with countries such as the UK, France, Ireland, Germany, Norway and the Netherlands, among other destinations. By driving it is accessible from the AP7, the highway that runs along the Mediterranean from France to Algeciras, and a great road network through which you can reach all the coastal towns. The Costa Blanca is also well connected by its rail network with trains of long-haul and AVES (high speed train) along the coast or that arrive from Madrid and several commuter lines.
The large number of tourists visiting this coast year after year, has caused a great growth in the hotel and rental offering in the area, so the range of possibilities is very wide. If you're traveling with family or friends, we recommend a holiday rental, as it will allow you to find a better price, a wider freedom of schedules and place. What better than an apartment overlooking the sea on the Costa Blanca, or perhaps, a complex of houses with a communal pool or a villa with a private pool.
