The coastal strip of the province of Almería, in the autonomous community of Andalusia, receives the name of Costa de Almería. Alcazaba and Murallas del Cerro de San Cristóbal are located in Almería capital. Alcazaba is a fortress with walls of five meters of height and more than three meters of width. It has become one of the most important Arab monumental and archaeological complexes of all the Iberian Peninsula. It’s almost a thousand years old. Las Torres Vigías de Almería are located along the coast. They were used to monitor pirate attacks and the watchmen communicated between the 7 towers by using smoke signals. Isla de San Andrés is formed by two islets: isla Grande and isla Chica. Both are of volcanic origin. It is adjacent to Parque Natural del Cabo de Gata-Níjar. It was declared Natural Monument in 2003 by the Junta de Andalucía.
