Torrevieja is a beautiful coastal town of 120,000 inhabitants located 50 km from Alicante on the Costa Blanca, nestled in a corner of high landscape value between the Mata and Torrevieja lagoons. In the last decades, this tourist destination has not stopped growing, and it receives every year thousands of tourists from all over the world.
If for some reason this population stands out, it’s for the great amount and quality of its beaches. Along its entire coastline, we find large and extensive sandbanks, but also small wild coves where to relax and try to escape the crowds. Here are some of the best: Playa de la Mata is a large sandbank located in the urban core with the same name. With a length of 2,500 m, the beach has more than 10 beach bars.
Cala Ferris is a small cove of little more than 150 m surrounded by palm trees and bathed by crystalline waters. Its beauty and proximity to Torrevieja make this beach quite busy.
Playa Los Locos is a beautiful beach of about 700 mts long located in the center of Torrevieja. Its good location in the center and good services and facilities make it a very popular beach, loved both by visitors and locals.
Playa del Cura is located in the heart of Torrevieja. It has almost 350 m in length and it´s bordered by a beautiful promenade full of bars, restaurants, terraces and stores that make it a very special place. It is a high-quality beach and has good services and facilities.
The gastronomy in Torrevieja, as a good seafaring town, is based on sea products that combine with the healthy Mediterranean diet. Fresh fish and seafood fill restaurant tables either in delicious broths, stews or simply grilled dishes. But one of the most famous dishes of Torrevieja are its rice dishes.
Here we can taste delicious recipes such as Arroz con caldero, Arroz a banda, Arroz mariner, among many others, and of course, there is a great variety of tapas, which is the best way to try many recipes in a single meal, such as Calamar "de potera", Sepia a la plancha, Pulpo "en sangochao", Boquerones en vinagre, etc. In Torrevieja, we can find all kinds of restaurants, including traditional and author cuisine, innovative, international Asian and Italian ones for all tastes and budgets.
Tourist come in search of its beaches, its rich gastronomy, its privileged climate and an important cultural patrimony from which it highlights its churchs and the Mirador de la Torre del Moro or Palacio de la Música. But its main attraction is its privileged coastline, where along its almost 20 km visitors enjoy large sandbanks.
Within the municipality, one of the first things that any visitor does is to take a walk along the Juan Aparicio Promenade, but there are other interesting visits such as Museo Flotante Submarino, which children will love, or visit Torre del Moro, Lagunas de la Mata and Torrevieja if you like nature and active tourism.
