Castillo Bellver was built by King James II of Mallorca in the fourteenth century and was the seat of his court. It is strategically located on top of a hill 112 meters above sea level, surrounded by woods and 3 km from the center of Palma de Mallorca. Throughout its history, this wonderful and impressive fortification served as both a royal residence and prison.
Within its majesty, Castillo Bellver includes three towers, its walls and circular courtyard. The castle is open for visitors and inside, on the ground floor and in the rooms surrounding the courtyard is the fantastic Museo de Municipal de Historia de la ciudad de Palma, the collection of classical sculptures of Cardinal Despuig and Numismatic Collection of Lluís Ferbal. The museum is divided into eight rooms that correspond to different stages of the evolution of the city.
