Alicante Central Market is located in the central shopping street Calle de Alfonso X the Wise; it is an emblematic and architecturally valuable building built between 1911 and 1912 on the XVIII century wall that surrounded Alicante, with elements of modernistinspiration. The building has an area of 11,000 m2 divided on two floors of rectangular shape which follows a basilical scheme.
This is the ideal place to soak up the atmosphere of the city. Each morning the market opens at 07:30 and soon it gets full of people, mostly tourists walking the alleys and stalls. This is the perfect place to buy fresh quality products in any of its more than 245 stalls we can find from good fish and seafood to tasty fresh meat at very reasonable prices, we will see numerous stalls of fruits and vegetables of excellent quality, as well as various stalls where you can taste rich products, have breakfast with a good coffee or refreshments.
This is a building full of history, if you look at the façade you will see that there are still remains of the bombing of 1939. During the Civil War there was an attack by Italian Fascists airmen that killed several people, but fortunately the market has managed to stand up to this day.
It is worth this visit even if to only admire the architecture of the building and meet the daily life of the people of Alicante.
