The viewpoint of the Balcony of Europe in Nerja has a long history, was built on a fortress called the Castle bass of Nerja and destroyed in 1812 during the Guerra of Independence. In 1885 King Alfonso XII decided to make a visit to the town because of a strong earthquake that suffered and it struck part of the provinces of Malaga and Granada. Currently in the square, the viewpoint has a monument to Alfonso XII life-size and some cannons that remind us of the military past of the area.
The Balcony of Europe in Nerja became famous in the Spanish series “Verano Azul” which was filmed in Nerja. This spot was the meeting point of some intrepid kids that every evening filled the living rooms of the Spaniards, which laughed at his adventures and unforgettable stories.
