The Explanada promenade is a lovely promenade that runs between palm trees and ocean waves and extends from the bustling section of Puerto de Alicante to Parque de Canalejas.
In the past, this area was always a place with a lot of life, here were the pubs, cafes and hotels where the owners were staying and in 1830, when they decided to do some work to level the land of dikes they left some free space in which they decided to build a Paseo that throughout history has received different names, in the beginning it was the Malecón, later Paseo de Olalde later Paseo de los Mártires in honor of a sad event in which 24 soldiers were shot and finally the Explanada promenade.
The floor was built with more than six million, red, white and black wavy marble tiles that mimic the movement of ocean waves.
Explanada promenade, day and night
The Explanada promenade is the real nerve center of the city of Alicante, an area full of bars, terraces and restaurants along the marina area.
During the day is the perfect spot for sports, cycling, walking or relax and enjoy the atmosphere in one of the many terraces, while taking some refreshment and enjoying watching the comings and goings of tourists and locals in the shadow of the wonderful four rows of palm trees.
By nightfall the Promenade becomes a place of bustling activity, crowded up and down, craft stands, live music and a great atmosphere. It is also an area where concerts are held.
