Albufera des Grau, an elongated Lake 2 km long, is the largest wetland of Minorca and one of the highlights of the Balearic Islands, constituting the area of the biosphere reserve core. L’Albufera can be divided into three zones: Faro Favaritx area, Isla de Colom and the lagoon and Prado de S’Albufera, where there are several ecosystems.
Three marked routes are used to visit the park and to discover its wildlife, its different wetlands and cliffs, its wide variety of ecosystems along its 5,000ha of land and sea, where we find from tongue dunes, beaches and islands of high value biological, to agricultural land and livestock and forests. Two routes start near the information center and are the most interesting, the third part from the town Es Grau, in all three cases the estimated walking tour is one hour.
To visit the park you must contact the Rodriguez Femenies Tourist Information Centre where you can get information of the possible routes of the park.
Visite the Faro Favaritx
A good way to finish the visit to la Albufera is approaching the Favaritx Lighthouse located very close to la Albufera. Its high white and black tower of 29m high, with a wild and rugged environment, forming one of the most visited island lighthouses. In Cabo Favaritx you will find a landscape that does not resemble anything to the rest of the island and which leaves no one indifferent. Its large steep cliffs and rocks of black slate evoke more lunar landscape that the terrestrial.
