The port of Ciutadella is located in the western part of the island of Menorca and has 1,170 meters in length and a width of 110 to 15 meters. Its connects the ports of Mallorca and Barcelona by shipping companies that have regular routes, such as Balearia and Iscomar.
This port is known for its “Rissagas”, a meteorological phenomenon that occurs occasionally in the Balearic Islands, which are known as Mareas del Pino, because they tend to occur at the time when the holiday is celebrated, and are characterized by a rise or lowering of the sea level in Ciutadella, that can leave the port without water or conversely, flooding the surroundings.
In 2006, the city suffered a very destructive rissaga that ended up destroying most of the boats in the harbor. Puerto de Ciutadella is considered one of the most beautiful in the Mediterranean, in the summer this picturesque port is alive with a spectacular setting featuring luxury yachts moored at their docks, terraces and many crowded restaurants with visitors of all nationalities, pretty traditional fishing boats moored in the North Shore and a nice multicolored market on the steps leading down to the port from the Plaza Es Born, where you will find countless handicrafts and souvenirs from the island.
