At the top of the old town, we find the beautiful majestic Church of Our Lady of Consolation of Altea of more than a hundred years old, also called “Iglesia de Arriba”, it is the main church of Altea.
The old town of Altea is a gem in itself, it is recognized as the most beautiful of the Costa Valencia and is there, on the top of the old part of the city, where stands this majestic church, built over a hundred years ago with the money that was collected by the 5,690 people residing in the village. A symbol of the city that all the neighbors feel very proud of. Plaza de la Iglesia, where the entrance is, is the perfect place to sit and take it easy in any of its terraces and enjoy this beautiful stamp place.
The church does not go unnoticed because with its two domes made of typical Levantine blue tiles with white trim, it is present and visible from all points of the city. It is a beautiful architectural work of neo-baroque style with contemporary touches built on the foundations of an ancient temple. Inside, at the high altar, you can see a beautiful altarpiece and we must highlight the large number and value of their statuary.
Adorning this magnificent ecclesiastical building, visitors can enjoy a maze of white houses with narrow streets and empedraras of extraordinary beauty, certainly a very charming place. Therefore, it is no wonder it is one of the busiest and most visited areas of Altea.
