Viewed from the coast, the mountain range stands majestically with a series of peaks that plunge into the sea in the form of steep cliffs. The Natural Park Sierras de Tejeda, Almijara y Alhama has one of the most beautiful landscapes of the Costa de Andalucía.
The Natural Park Sierras de Tejeda, Almijara y Alhama cover an area of 40,662 hectares. It is dotted with lots of beautiful white villages that hide a great historical legacy flavored with its Moorish origin. There are a total of 13 municipalities in Málaga and 9 in the province of Granada. All of them known for their dazzling whitewashed walls, pink roofs and narrow cobbled alleys that breathing history along them. Málaga provinces include Frigiliana, Nerja, Salaeres, Cómpete, Alcaucín, Canillas de Aceituno, Sedella and Canillas de Abaida. Regarding Granada, we can mention Alhama de Granada, Arenas del Rey, Jayena and Otivar.
These large landscapes of forests and crags are home to numerous species of birds and mammals with a large presence of eagles, cormorants, vultures, falcons and other forest birds. As for mammals, there is a large number of ibexes, with nearly 1,700 specimens being the stars of this land.
The water, which has flowed over millions of years through this land of limestone, has created a maze of cracks and uniquely shaped gorges. Its rivers descend downhill in the form of large jumps and stunning ravines. One of the most important elements in the area are the spectacular caves of Nerja.
