How were originally the Windmills of Javea?
With dimensions of 7 meters by 6 meters wide, a mechanism and large sturdy wooden blades, the function of the Windmills of Javea was to grind wheat, harnessing the power of the southwest winds which are constant in this area called “llebeig”. Inside, they kept all the machinery and massive spinning mechanisms with heavy stones to grind wheat and make flour.
The passage of time is relentless and no longer retain the blades of any of the mills. Some of the mills are in poor condition, but the City Council of Jávea are trying to restore at least 3 of them and thus safeguard this beautiful historical heritage.
