While being in the maze of pedestrian streets that make up the old town, you just simply need raise your eyes to catch the presence of the beautiful and imposing Greater church of the Encarnacion which is located between the Plaza de los Naranjos and the castle walls. To visit it, just go up the Caridad street or through the Plaza de los Naranjos.
This is an imposing church and one of the largest of Marbella, located in the heart of the Old Town. Painted in an immaculate white color, its large bell tower stands out, since is visible from many parts of the city. Its interior is an absolute beauty, surprising visitors with its greatness based on the simplicity of its lines. More highlights include a large Baroque altarpiece in green and gold on its upper part and an organ considered one of the biggest instruments manufactured in Spain in the twentieth century.
On June 11th, 1485, the keys of the city were given to the Catholic Monarchs after the reconquest. At such times, the city was taken over by the Christians, who began to consecrate mosques.
Holy week is a perfect time to visit it
During Holy Week, the square is the epicenter of the celebrations, from here the processions start in a solemn and emotional religious event for believers.
