The magnificent Enlightenment Stupa in Benalmádena, is located in the province of Málaga. It is the biggest one of the West. Although we initially tend to associate these kind of monuments with Eastern countries like Nepal or India, the truth is that this religion has believers worldwide.
Traveling on the Mediterranean highway that crosses the Costa del Sol, this great white temple is seen from far away, topped by a golden cone pointing to the sky. It has a height of 33m, the dome is supported by a base of 25m wide by 25m long. Unlike most estupas in the world, this one has an inside room open to the public for Buddhist meditation or exhibitions.
A monument dedicated to peace, prosperity and harmony. Hundreds of pilgrims come to this place to meditate walking around the temple clockwise while formulating desires which they say come true.
The temple was inaugurated in 2003 with all the honors. More than 3,000 people attended the ceremony presided by S.S. Kunzig Shamar Rinpoche (the second most important teacher within the Karma Kagyu lineage of Tibetan Buddhism). As well as numerous personalities from all over the world.

Reachable by road, following the Mediterranean A7 motorway. Drive on the A7 Mediterranean South-West Highway and take the exit 217 – Benalmádena Mijas. Just have to follow this path in direction of Benalmádena, the enlightenment stupa is located to the right.
