Climb the Castle
In your visit to Sagunto you cannot miss the climb to the castle. It is a fortress on top of the Sierra Calderona surrounded by walls built during different times by different civilizations that dwelt these lands. The fortress is divided into seven Plazas where we find remains of public and religious buildings and walls scattered throughout the fort.
Sitting in the stands of the Roman Theater
The Roman theatre is a building of the first century B.C. dug on a hole in rock, it has an incredible sound and can accommodate up to 8,000 spectators. Although its controversial restoration has been complex, we consider it one of the Essential spots in Sagunto.
Getting lost in La Judería
One of the essential visits of Sagunto for its particular charm is La Judería, located in the oldest part of the city with a well-preserved track. Here you can discover the important legacy of the Jewish culture in Spain. A trip back in time to medieval times. You will fall in love with its narrow cobbled streets between buildings with lots of history.
Old town of Sagunto
The Old Town is one of the most beautiful and interesting parts of the city. No doubt it is one of the essentials spots of Sagunto. The old city is a place to get lost among its narrow cobbled. You will discover beautiful corners at every step. Visit the Iglesia de Santa María next to Plaza Mayor. Discover the Islamic side next to City Hall and the Museo Histórico, Ermita de la Sangre and la Judería.
Relax on Playa Almardá
Playa Almardá Beach is famous for its tranquility and its 2 kilometers long tongue of sand bordered by a line of dunes of great ecological value. It is an ideal place to unwind and enjoy the sea and to practice water sports. Eat a tasty rice dish at the port Sagunto. It is reputed to have some of the best rice masters of the province. Our favorites are el Sarao, la Chispa, Mar Blau, Almeriz and La Lonja where they cook arroces a la leña.
Delving into Cuevas de San Josep en la Vall d’Uixó
Just 20 km from Sagunto there is the Vall d’Uixo where we find a fantastic set of underground caves. Sailing one of the longest underground rivers of Europe is an experience not easily forgotten. Cuevas de San Josep were formed 250,000 years ago and spread over 1.5 km. A 45 min boat trip completes this original visit.
Visit Ciudad de las Artes y las Ciencias in Valencia
We cannot leave Sagunto without visiting at least once Ciudad de las Artes y las Ciencias de Valencia. Just 30 minutes from Sagunto, in the city of Valencia. There is this great avant-garde architectural complex that houses the Oceanográfico, L’Hemisferic, el Museo de la Ciencia, Palacio de las Artes Reina Sofia and L’Umbracle.
Take a dip in Playa de Sagunto
Do not miss the opportunity to take a bath in the charming beach of los Saguntinos. The beach is located north of Puerto de Sagunto with more than 1.5 km long. It is the urban beach par excellence and has a nice promenade of 2km long that skirts it. It also has an easily accessible parking area.
Visit Santa María Church
The Iglesia de Santa María is one of the most important monuments of the city. This majestic temple was built over a mosque in 1334 and declared a National Monument in 1983. It features a Valencian Gothic style. Outside, do not forget to look up and see the sculptures of demons and gargoyles that are through the roof.
